Pursuit of the Sacred

I have started this new blog as what I believe will be an outlet for my next focus.  I say "believe to be" because the term "pursuit of the sacred" is only a couple days old in my thinking.  Maybe I will reword it, or decide a slightly different path, but I wanted to "try it on" so to speak and see where it goes.

The thought of pursuing the sacred is something that excites me.  It is a heavy/difficult pursuit.  It is one that I don't want influenced by the popular culture, other than to look at current conflicts and to discover the sacred truth to know where I should stand on a topic.  I have a hunch that on most issues I will not be on one side or the other, but likely in some mix of the two, or possibly nowhere near either side.  At the same time, I can't really live in a bubble and God uses other people to speak into our lives.  I guess what I am saying is that I don't just want to follow some human reasoning and call it "sacred".

Pursuit of the Sacred is really all about being like Jesus.  He is the sacred.   You might think the church would have all the answers about Jesus all wrapped up and put together, but they don't.  The reality, is that having God figured out is impossible.  Add into the equation that churches are run by fallible human beings and not only do we not have it figured out, in many times throughout history we have had it completely wrong.

So, I don't think for a second I will figure God out either, but I am extremely excited for some great "ah ha" moments, where maybe I get a small glimpse of the sacred that I have not experienced before.  Something unique.  Like the things Jesus would say many times, and the Bible says "the people were amazed at his teaching".  In short, I want to be like that.  I desire to have that perspective that is more than wisdom, more than gutsy, more than radical.   It is sacred...   It is something separate, and holy.  But not so separate that it doesn't apply or have meaning.   Actually, it has greater meaning.   It is deep, and rooted in the character of God, and interwoven through out his creation and therefore extremally applicable.  While a lot of the output of this this blog will be thoughts, ideas, revelations; there is no separating that from Jesus himself.  He is the pursuit, and out of greater relationship with Him will come tangible sacred treasure that can hopefully be put into words.

Some of this sacred treasure has simply been lost and needs rediscovered.  Other things are yet to be discovered.  I believe as exciting as technology can be and how it has radically changed our world, I think this pursuit of the sacred will provide timely divine truth that can shape our world for the better.  We will see!
