The Foundation
"In the beginning God created..." That is how the Bible begins to explain the origins of our existence. Along with the foundations of the physical universe came life. (plant, animal, and human). With that physical creation comes a countless number of foundational truths that tie physical creation together with emotion, and spirit. We as humans are miraculously conscious at least in part to this design. These rules bring order and tie everything together to create a healthy ecosystem.
We have an ability to manipulate this ecosystem to do amazing things. Just as God created, we too have created micro-creations within His creation. These creations many times have made us more productive, safer, stronger, and all together made life better. As it goes with creating/inventing/exploring, not everything works out for the better unfortunately.
While there is a lot of room for us to be creative, building something that is not in line with the foundational rules is a recipe for disaster. Trying to create a device that goes across the water and you don't accept things like gravity, moisture, or propulsion you won't have much of a chance of success.
Even worse is thinking we can tinker with the foundation itself. Now, we have tinkered with foundations of houses and we have improved the design over time, but housing foundations are our own micro-creations, so we have some real understanding about how they work. Or at least the experts do! So, that makes since. What doesn't make since is messing with Gods foundation that he created. We don't know what we are messing with. Let's look at some of the questions we are asking:
- Why does a man have to be a man, or a woman a woman?
- Why do we need "traditional" families?
- Why can't I just kill my baby if I don't want it?
- Why not walk into a public place and take people out with an assault rifle?
Why have some things been the way they are since the beginning of time? We don't really know, if we are being honest with ourselves We just know they are that way. We know the Bible instructs us on how things work in Gods design, but it doesn't layout a detailed blueprint of the inner workings of every truth/rule/principle. I believe it would impossible for us to wrap our heads around it. We can't even wrap our heads around some of our own creations. For example, the amount of dependencies, and interdependencies that are tied to the internet and various IT systems. We have things happen all the time in IT, where something breaks and we don't know why it affects XYZ the way that it did, because we didn't realize that XYZ required something of that system to do what it does.
If the internet and IT in general is baffling to us and we created it, how much more are things that God has established and put in place? Things that are inter-related across time and space, and built into our DNA, and taps into our emotions and our spirit, that relates to other peoples lives and civilization as a whole. Let's be real... We don't know how it works! I know with the amazing things that science and technology have done make us think we are god, but I have news for you; we are not even close to being God. So, what part of taking a jackhammer to the foundation of our world sounds like a good idea? Go out and hire the dumbest person you can find to build you a house. That would be the equivalent of taking the smartest people to create a new foundation for our world.
We have deemed the architect/creator of everything we know outdated and irrelevant while we roam around His creation without a clue how it works. How absolutely crazy does that sound? It sounds like something a 3 year old would do.
Because we have tossed God to the side, we now are questioning literally everything. We threw the compass and all other navigation out the window and we are trying to find our way without it. As we pursue the sacred I believe we will find it embracing rather than trying to destroy the foundational truths that God established at creation. My next blog will cover our first "ideal" and sacred institution. "the family".
